He has conducted Sousa Concerts for high schools, colleges, and professional ensembles and is in high demand as a Sousa Lecturer. Miller is considered to be one of the world’s foremost portrayers and historians on Sousa. In 20, he was a Grammy Award Quarter Finalist for Outstanding Music Educator in the United States and also a finalist for the Toledo Symphony Orchestra Outstanding Music Educator Award for 2021. Miller has also been listed multiple times in the “Who’s Who of American Teachers.” In 2013, he was given the title of “Honorary Marine” by the United States Marine Corps and the Ottawa County Marines. In 2007, he was awarded the Walmart Teacher of the Year for his area and a finalist for the State Teacher of the Year. In 2000, he received the National Band Association Citation of Excellence. Miller is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the Ohio Music Education Association, the National Band Association, and the American School Band Directors Association. Miller was a 5 year member of The Ohio State Marching Band and “dotted the “i” 3 times in the infamous “Script Ohio.” He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from The Ohio State University and Masters of Music degree from Cleveland State University. Rodney Miller, a native of Springfield, Ohio, is the Director of Bands at Port Clinton City Schools and is in his 34th and final year of teaching.
